Design Depths: AI in Design
.Artificial intelligence is entering the design process not only as a tool for generating images, but also as a way of exploring hidden relationships between objects, forms, and meanings. What happens when latent space is investigated through design? Can machine learning reveal connections that usually remain invisible to the human observer? And where does a practical design tool end and speculative design begin?
In this lecture, Design Depths will be introduced as a project developed at the Industrial Design Studio, Faculty of Multimedia Communications, Tomas Bata University in Zlín. Through the experiment ModificAI, it will be shown how AI and machine learning can be used to explore relationships between products from different areas of design, from furniture and everyday objects to automotive design. Questions will be opened about the role of AI in the creative process, the generation of design variations, and the shifting boundaries between human intuition, data, and algorithmic imagination.
Short biography:
Jakub Hrdina works at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications, Tomas Bata University in Zlín. His work focuses on digital and industrial design, visualization, generative tools, and the use of artificial intelligence in the design process. He is one of the authors of ModificAI project, which explores latent space, machine learning, and AI-assisted design in the context of industrial design.
