Roundtable – Unlearning Design

The roundtable “Unlearning Design” provides a platform to collectively discuss the future of design education, aiming toward a practice that is explorative, responsible, and transformative.

We invite students, educators, researchers, and everyone who‘s interested to join the discourse on the future of design in the context of sustainable transformation.

For some time now, design education has been undergoing changes. In the face of multiple global crises – climate change, social inequality, and resource scarcity – the question remains: what role can design play in the sustainable transformation of society? Sustainability and transformational competence are central themes in design education, yet many teaching formats remain tied to established structures that tend to limit rather than foster sustainable innovation. The concept of unlearning offers a critical perspective: which assumptions, methods, and practices in design education need to be questioned and overcome to enable future-enabling design approaches?
